Palestinian Youth Ecumenical Movement - Norway visit – August 2011

On the 25th of August 2011, two members of the Palestinian Youth Ecumenical Movement headed to Oslo in Norway, to begin the first project of cooperation between the Palestinian movement and the Students Christian Movement in Norway. The meeting was to get introduced on the institution in Norway, the Palestinian members held some meetings to talk about some issues related to Palestine. In addition, meetings took place with some Norwegian Parliament members to talk about the upcoming elections in Norway and their position towards the Palestinian issue, as well as about what happened in Norway on 22 July 2011.

The visit also included a Palestinian cultural night in which some Palestinian food was prepared and products presented, while presenting the Boycott – Divestment – Sanctions (BDS) campaign, showing some images of the Holy Land, and screening a film on the participation at the JAI Olive Picking Program last year.

During the visit, agreement was reached on what will be the cooperation between the two movements, and the first activity will start in the coming October next, through partial participation of some of the Norwegian movement’ members at the JAI Olive Picking Program, and help Palestinian farmers, as well as holding joint workshops on how to hold elections, review some of the ways and experiences on attracting young people to the movements or volunteer for the institutions, especially the Christian related ones. The visit will also include lectures on leadership and some Bible studies.

It was also agreed to hold summer camps in Norway and Palestine, with the participation of members from both countries.
