Journey for Justice 2006 (4)

27th June – 6th July, 2006


Young leaders, from various YMCA and YWCA movements are participating in the “Journey for Justice 4� at the YMCA in Beit Sahour.

Participants this year came from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Quatemala, Spain, Lesotho, Japan, Netherlands, and Belarus.

Together with the Palestinian YMCA/YWCA youth, they work their way through a challenging program.  

Updates, including reports, interviews, and pictures will be available daily throughout the eight days:


Wednesday, June 28
: Welcoming and introduction, historical and political background, advocacy work and campaigning, guided tour around Jerusalem Wall and settlements.


Thursday, June 29: Rehabilitation program presentation, Bethlehem University, Nativity church and old city of Bethlehem, PLC members and political leaders, dinner and homestays with families.


Friday, June 30: Breakfast with host families, tour inside refugee camp, refugees issue presentation, Jericho.


Saturday, July 1: Jenin day, roadblocks in the north, rehabilitation office, meeting governor, meeting priest and devotion at a church in the north, tourist village .


Sunday, July 2: Church service attendance, Hebron day, visit international missions in Hebron, old city and occupied market, Ibrahimi Mosque, meeting with Israeli settler, joining protesting Palestinian families and farmers.


Monday, July 3: Ramallah day, YWCA centre in the refugee camp, Al-Jazeera reporters meeting, PLO representative, Bila'een village, BBQ with host families.


Tuesday, July 4: Jerusalem day, YMCA and YWCA headquarters, visit Al-Aqsa mosque and Holy Sepulcher, meeting religious leaders, traditional evening and dinner.


Friday, July 5: Olive tree planted fields visits, meeting and brunch with farmers, ex-rehabilitation program client meeting, free time in Bethlehem, evaluation and future advocacy plans, farewell party.
